The course examines the major political, social, cultural, diplomatic, and economic developments of the period, with special emphasis on the Great Depression, the New Deal, World War II, the Cold War, and the cultural divisions of the 1950s. Advanced knowledge of U.S. history is not required or expected. (Group I)
