MUS 300.6, Music in Community Engagement: Southern Louisiana is a Diversity, Group IV Distribution and Travel-Learning course designed to explore the musical culture of Southern Louisiana while viewing the musical culture as an enduring and powerful force for community engagement. Through the study of the cultures and the music, students will experience this aspect of the music in their own SOLA music ensemble. During the travel portion of the course, our activities will visit both formal organizations and informal events that are structured around community music engagement. There are no prerequisites and the course will be available to students who are willing to learn to play a musical instrument, sing and dance. Group IV Arts
