PHIL 354 - Social and Political Philosophy A critical study of modern Western political philosophies in historical context. Through a close and historically informed study of the philosophers who first championed freedom and democracy in Western Europe, the course will explore the visions, conflicts, and contradictions that continue to influence modern Western political culture. Likely authors include More, Hobbes, Locke, Marx, and contemporary critical theorists. (Group III)
