SOAN 117 - Introduction to Social Problems This course provides an introduction to contemporary social problems by using a sociological perspective to analyze problems depicted in HBO’s The Wire. The focus is on problems in American society, including poverty, racism, gender inequality, gangs, drugs, education, and family. Through heavy use of multimedia (including watching The Wire), students learn basic sociological concepts and the causes and consequences of enduring social problems. (Group I)
