An introductory ear-training course, developing 1) aural recognition of the basic elements of music—intervals, rhythm and meter, scales, key signatures, triads and seventh chords—and 2) the ability to sing basic melodies at sight. The latter half of the semester focuses on sight reading and dictation of diatonic melodies of greater complexity in the major and minor modes; rhythmic dictation; and basic harmonic dictation. F.
