BWS 300 10 - African-Americans & US Law

1.00

In this course we will study the Freedom and Civil Rights movements of African-Americans from the colonial era to the 21st Century. As a team-taught interdisciplinary course, we will be considering cultural, social and political aspects of the movements but we will also focus heavily on the significant role “law” (broadly defined) played in these movements. In analyzing these movements, we will be taking a “law and society” approach that law and legal institutions affect society but that society also affects law. Law can constrain but also emplower - becoming a vehicle for social and political change. (Group I)
