ESL Advanced Writing is a content-based composition course for advanced non-native English speaking (NNES) students to improve their ability in successfully completing the writing tasks required in university academic courses. Students learn how to analyze and respond to a variety of writing tasks while simultaneously concentrating on grammatical and lexical expression. Writing is presented as a process of invention, draft, and revision which emphasizes elements of good writing including unity, coherence, and clarity. Students develop skill in paraphrasing and summarizing, in employing various modes of organization, and in composing syntactically complex sentences. Students also develop skill in synthesizing information from various written and spoken sources. Does not count toward graduation requirements.
