Examination of current models of early childhood programs. Topics include: philosophical perspectives of several early childhood curricular models, knowledge of the diversity of settings, teacher qualifications, types of employment in the early childhood field, cultural, linguistic, and ethnic diversity among families and how this impacts development, especially language and literacy, and the importance of family partnerships in early childhood settings. The required field/lab experience includes 20 hours of volunteering in an early childhood setting. In addition, students will spend time observing and reporting on various models of early childhood programs. Must be taken concurrently with EDUC 105 . Fall. Fee: $65, Required background check
