A survey of European drama from the Greek theatre of Classical Athens to the neoclassical theatre of seventeenth-century France. The course serves theatrical as well as literary interests, with careful study of the relationship of each period of the drama to the society it played to, the theatre it played in, and to the literary figures and styles that influenced it.
