ART 315 - Book Arts I 1.00
The objective of this course is to build a foundation of knowledge of book arts as a creative artistic medium. The course places emphasis on establishing an understanding of the hand made book as a medium with unique aesthetic and physical qualities. Class instruction and assignments will be geared toward exploring those qualities. We will work to establish the technical skills necessary to allow for creative freedom in your book projects. To this end, we will explore multiple analog and digital approaches to the medium, with the intention of gaining a broad understanding of both historic and contemporary binding/image sequencing techniques. The course will consist of image lectures, student presentations, class discussions and critiques, individual feedback sessions, along with basic digital, and book binding technical instruction. Prerequisite: ART 112 or instructor permission. (Group IV) Studio fee: $75
