MUS 349 - A History of Rock in Song, Style, and Story 1.00
This course covers the history of rock music and examines how a mixture of blues, country, jazz and mainstream pop gave birth to a diversified style that has become a cornerstone of contemporary popular culture. The course objectives include: 1) reading, critical performance reviews, autobiographies, and historical accounts of rock music; 2) development of listening skills to analyze and identify the characteristics of multiple popular music styles; 3) writing reflections that explore the cultural, political, economic, and technological themes associated with rock; and 4) conducting research to examine the significance of a student-selected artist or group from rock history.
