EDUC 316 - Children’s & Young Adult Literature 1.00
The focus of this course is to enhance teaching through the use of children’s and young adult literature in P-12 classrooms. Candidates preparing to teach children and adolescents need an understanding of the critical importance of literature to help develop literacy skills while supporting efforts to create life-long readers. The course is intended to not only acquaint teacher candidates with high quality literature that appeals to children and young adults, but to also develop strategies for using books to support literacy development and content enhancement across the curriculum. Candidates will select and evaluate quality literature, match books to developmental stages and preferences, and explore evidence-based responses to literature. Pre-requisite: B- or better in EDUC 251; Admission to the Teacher Education Program Gen Ed Competency: Listen, Imagine, and Understand
