Students read Sterne’s Tristram Shandy, Voltaire’s Candide, Diderot’s Rameau’s Nephew, Goethe’s Sorrows of Young Werther, Catherine the Great’s Oh, These Times!, Lermontov’s A Hero of Our Time, Pushkin’s Tales of Belkin, Queen of Spades, and Captain’s Daughter. All continental books are read in English translation.
