BIOL 280 Medical Microbiology
Concepts and laboratory experiences in microbiology for health sciences. In this course we will examine the features that define pathogenic microbes and how they evade or manipulate the host immune system to cause disease. We will survey major pathogen groups by the organ systems they infect and how they interact with the healthy human microbiome. In the lab, students will learn aseptic techniques to identify bacterial pathogens using clinical morphological, physiological, and molecular diagnostic techniques Lecture and laboratory.
