ECON 353 Economic Development
This course provides an economic analysis of the process, problems, and prospects of development, with particular focus on the challenges faced by less developed countries (LDCs). It begins by introducing and examining the central pillars of development: Sustainable economic growth; moderation of poverty and inequality; economic resilience; and institutional integrity. It then uncovers the mechanisms by which the development process is further affected by demographic dynamics, credit market mechanisms, and foreign aid. Throughout the course, the ultimate goal is to understand why the process of economic development in the modern world is non-trivial, multifaceted, and highly consequential.
