EDUC 105 Introduction to Early Childhood Education




This course is an overview of the issues related to the education of young children as well as an introduction to the profession of early childhood education. It covers developmentally appropriate curriculum practices and theories of development. The Early Learning Content Standards and Ohio Reading and Literacy Core Standards are introduced. Other major topics include: curriculum planning, safe and healthy environments, observational techniques, the importance of play, and management techniques used with young children. This is a required course for all Elementary and Inclusive Elementary Education Majors. Concurrent enrollment in EDUC 105L is required. This lab requires background check clearance from two agencies and issuance of the state-required Preservice Teacher Permit. Costs for two background checks and the permit (approximately $200) are the responsibility of the student and must occur before completing a minimum of 20 hours in an early childhood center.
