An exploration of the theory and research concerning the teaching of reading and writing to students in grades preK-5. The development of literacy, appropriate teaching strategies, techniques of evaluation and application of teaching strategies to the content areas are covered. Attention is also given to the integration of reading with the other language arts, particularly writing, as well as curricular modifications for children with disabilities and cultural differences.
