HIST 113 Introduction to Early U.S. History to 1877




The course surveys the major social, political, cultural, constitutional, and economic developments from the founding of the British North American colonies that became the United States through the Civil War and Reconstruction. It introduces students to some of the main issues and controversies of this time period, including an analysis of the Revolutionary Era, the creation of the U.S. constitution with its federal system, the development of the institution of slavery and its connection to the Civil War, and the War and its aftermath, Reconstruction.
