A survey of major music cultures of the non-Western world. Emphasis is placed upon the traditional music of Africa, the Arab World, India, Southeast Asia, China, and Japan. The student approaches the course through lectures, a listening program, films, and performance groups. Observations are made of the relationships of music with drama, dance, and society in general.
