ENG 356 Race, Power, and Identity in Postcolonial Literature
Studies in literature from throughout the former British Empire, including South Asia, the Anglophone Caribbean, Anglophone Africa, and Ireland. Course readings will address questions of race, power, and identity in fiction, drama, and poetry from throughout the postcolonial world. Questions of gender, class, national identity, and the relationship of postcolonial literature to the canon will characterize our study. Writers may include Bapsi Sidwa, Chimamanda Adichie, Edwidge Danticat, Ama Ata Aidoo, Ngugi wa Thiong’o, and Nuala ni Dhomhnaill.
