COMM 315 Strategic Communication and Message Design




This course focuses on the theoretical and creative aspects of strategic messaging, including the ability to write clearly, concisely, and effectively for various media in accordance with industry standards. This is an applied course which prepares students for professional writing by asking them to refine their message techniques, produce a portfolio-quality campaign project, and present their ideas to the class. While refreshing your knowledge of mechanics (e.g., grammar, punctuation, etc.) and editing, you will develop higher-level writing skills across multiple media platforms—traditional, digital, and social—which are necessary for communication professionals and writing in a professional environment. Opportunities for writing a variety of types of copy in print, broadcast media, social media, and public relations contexts are incorporated into the assignments. Additionally, students may choose to write for OWU’s student magazine, the Transcript, as part of their coursework.
