THEA 180 Documentary Film Production

Haven’t you ever wanted to make your own documentary about something in the world or someone else you found interesting? This course gives you the chance to use easily-available tools like your smartphone to bring those stories to life, and will train you in the basics of being a documentary film storyteller. The course is an intensive, fast-paced but guided introduction to the basic techniques and stylistic conventions of contemporary documentary film production, and takes you through short, weekly exercises that cover the foundational elements of documentaries. You will work through the ideation and research, location scouting and interviewing, and learning the fundamentals of legal forms and best practices, all culminating in your own original short documentary that will be screened for a public audience.
