ART 305 Art of the Black Atlantic
This course examines the artistic production around the Black Atlantic from the nineteenth century to today. The Black Atlantic is a concept, but also a framework and a tool to reorient how we look and experience the world centered on the Black experience. Over the course of the semester, we will analyze artworks by artists from countries washed by the Atlantic Ocean and united by the experience of the Slave trade. We will study histories of slavery and emancipation, not only to reflect on the past, but also to look at the future.
