ART 317 The Art of Protest
This upper division course provides a critical overview of key figures, debates and artistic movements from the 1960s and 1970s, a moment marked by a heightened interest in social justice as it pertains to race, class, and gender, as well as a criticism of imperialism, and aggressive capitalism. This class focuses on artists from Latin America coming of age at a time shaped by the military dictatorships that ruled the region, and who produced conceptual artworks to express dissent and eschew censorship.
