EDUC 211 Mathematics for Elementary Teachers
This course is designed for preservice elementary teachers to build mathematical knowledge for teaching. The course will focus on topics underlying elementary school mathematics, including systems of numeration, number theory, whole numbers, integers, fractions, decimals, and operations with real numbers. Emphasis is on understanding mathematical principles, reasoning, sense-making, individual and collaborative problem solving, and communicating mathematical ideas. Includes analysis of children’s mathematical thinking and connections to the elementary mathematics curriculum. This is a required course for Elementary Education, Inclusive Elementary Education, and Special Education Majors.
