This advanced German course investigates the artistic qualities as well as the cultural and historical contexts of some of the noted movies made in Germany from the 1920s to the present. The films may have English subtitles, but course lectures and required papers will be in German. Students will screen several films from the Golden Age of German Cinema (1918-1933), films made during and shortly after WWII, the German Democratic Republic (East Germany), the New German Cinema (1965-1985), and those made in the last decades Prerequisite: GERM 254 or equivalent. (Every third year)
