EDUC 300 8 - Differentiation & Evidence-Based Practices for Inclusive Instruction in Content Areas (grades 6-12)

The purpose of the course is to prepare middle school and secondary pre-service teacher education candidates to provide evidence-based language arts, math, and content area assessment and instruction to inclusion students. An emphasis is placed on results of research and proven methods of instruction. The course stresses a behavioral approach to teaching, as well as the development and implementation of intervention strategies for various populations of adolescents with exceptionalities in inclusive settings. Additional topics include appropriate data-based assessments for determining student strengths and needs, modifications and adaptations of meterials, effective teaching, strategies, lesson planning, and individualized education programs. Technology used to assist individuals with special needs to access the general education curriculum, including computer access, augmented and alternative communication systems, and adaptive reading and writing  programs are also addressed in the course. EDUC 300 9  to be taken concurrently. Prerequisite: EDUC 251  and admission to the teacher education program.
