COMM 300 10 - Health Communication 1.00
This course provides an overview of the mechanisms through which mass-mediated and interpersonal communication messages affect health behaviors and outcomes. The course centers research done “on” and/or “with” Black women in the USA and Southern Africa, and research that questions western health epistemologies. To accomplish this, we explore topics including health communication campaigns targeted at Black women, domestic and global health disparities, socio-cultural determinants of health, African colonialism, U.S. institutional slavery, traditional medicine, HIV/AIDS, cervical cancer and HPV.
