SJ 390 - Mentored Activism

1.00

Students will complete an experientially-oriented activist project under the mentorship of a social justice-affiliated faculty member. Students will propose their own project, and must receive approval for their project in the semester before they enroll in the course. Through this mentored activism, students will gain practical skills, such as community organizing, working with and mediating diverse social groups, and managing real-world projects. In addition to time spent on site each week, students must also complete biweekly reflections and regular meetings with their faculty mentor. For Social Justice majors, this course should be completed after SOAN 279 : Research Methods and before their final semester.  Registration requires consent of the instructor.
