SPAN 361 Spanish Drama
Contemporary Spanish Drama explores the dynamic and diverse landscape of Spanish theater from the late 20th century to the present. Through a selection of plays by influential playwrights students will analyze how contemporary Spanish drama reflects and responds to historical memory, political change, social justice, and issues of identity. The course will examine the ways in which theater serves as a space for cultural critique and artistic experimentation, with particular attention to themes of sexual identity, memory, immigration, and gender issues. Students will engage in close readings, class discussions, and creative projects to deepen their understanding of the cultural and historical forces shaping contemporary Spanish drama.
