NUTR 270 Sports and Exercise Nutrition




This course will explore the relationships between nutrition, exercise, and athletic performance.  Students will learn components of energy usage and metabolism, hydration strategies, how to analyze nutrient requirements, and dietary supplements to optimize health and performance.  Course topics will address basic nutritional principles to examine the impact and differences sport and exercise demands exert on an athlete’s nutritional needs, nutrient timing, body composition assessment, and meal-planning for various events.  Students will also explore the effect of particular dietary limitations on nutritional needs for various active and health-seeking populations, and will strive toward becoming knowledgeable consumers of food- and nutrition-related information.
