This is an introductory course emphasizing the four basic skills: aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing. This course includes consideration of the cultural and historical background of the areas where the language is spoken, and readings designed to introduce students to Spanish and Latin American cultures and literatures. The aim is to prepare students to speak and comprehend with some facility and to read texts of moderate difficulty. Emphasis is on class participation and active use of the language.
