This course will emphasize the development of lesson and unit planning for teaching science and social studies in elementary school settings prekindergarten through grade 5. Topics include: effective teaching strategies for each content area, interdisciplinary instruction, differentiated instruction, backward design, and culturally responsive instruction. Lesson planning will utilize an “assess-plan-teach-reflect” cycle. There is a 50-hour field experience candidates will complete during the same semester as this course.
