ACTV 0150 Scuba




Basic open water SCUBA Course taught to the SCUBA Diving International (SDI) Standards. The Academic portion of the course consists of approximately 10 hours of online training, including quizzes and tests, followed by an in-class course review. The academic portion will cover dive theory, dive equipment, the Physics of diving, and the physiology of diving.


The in-pool portion of the class consists of four lessons taught at the aquatic center. The pool portion will review the parts of the dive gear and how they are assembled, then cover basic underwater skills designed to build confidence and prepare you to eventually become a certified open water diver.

All gear will be provided. The Mask, Snorkel, dive boots, and fins are included in the class fees. Loaner Air tanks, BCDs, Weights, and Wetsuits are provided.


The first class will consist of a mandatory untimed 200-meter swim, followed by a 10-minute water tread. 

After the confined-water dives, Students are eligible to take their SDI Open Water Diver Certification for an additional fee, either with the instructor or with another SDI instructor.

Note: Credit for a maximum of two units (eight courses) in physical education activity courses, including varsity sports, may be earned and applied to the 34 minimum units required for graduation. If more than eight activity courses (two units) are completed, credit for subsequent courses will not be awarded and grades for such courses will not be included in term or cumulative GPA calculations.
