WLC 110 Unveiling Latin America: Society, Culture, and Power

This interdisciplinary course (taught in English) introduces Latin America as a region of rich cultural, linguistic, and geographic diversity shaped by enduring social and political challenges. Students will trace the roots in inequality from the colonial era to the present, explore decolonial perspectives, and analyze cycles of populism, democracy, and authoritarianism. This course also examines U.S.-Latin American relations and highlights the region’s cultural hybridity, where Indigenous, African, and European traditions merge and evolve. The course may be counted toward the Spanish major/minor and be taken as an elective for the Latin American Studies major/minor.
