Major Requirements

11 to 13 courses, studio and art history courses combined.  These shall include:

4 Core Foundation Courses

• ART 110 Survey of Art History I   
• ART 111 Survey of Art History II   
• ART 114 Materials Foundation   
• ART 115 Digital Foundations   

The declaration of major form will be submitted upon completion of: ART 110 , ART 111 , ART 114  and ART 115  by the end of the sophomore year. 

Art History Requirement, upper level: 5 courses 

• ART 470 Art History Capstone  and 
• Any four upper level art history courses from:
  • ART 251 Latin American Art  
  • ART 298 Photography History   
  • ART 300 3 Romanticism to Realism: European Art 1750-1850   
  • ART 317 The Art of Protest  
  • ART 341 Classical Art  
  • ART 342 Medieval Art  
  • ART 343 Italian Renaissance Art  
  • ART 345 Modern Art  
  • ART 346 American Art  
  • ART 347 Contemporary Art  
  • ART 349 Islamic Art  

Studio Requirement, two upper level studio art courses, either from:

• 2D media or
• 3D media courses

Notes

Candidates for the B.A. degree in fine arts with concentration in art history must complete all competency requirements as stated under REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DEGREES. Courses taken credit/no entry may not be applied toward the major. 

Credits awarded for internships, including ART 495, can be counted among the 11 basic units for the major.
