Major Requirements

The B.A. in Music major consists of 12 units:

• Two units of 200-level applied lesson courses in a principal area for eight semesters (instrumental performance, vocal performance, or composition)

• Two units of a large ensemble, determined by area of applied study

• Music Theory:

• Aural Skills:
  • ​MUS 165 Aural Skills I  
  • MUS 166 Aural Skills II

• Music History:
  • ​MUS 357 Music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque  
  • MUS 358 Music of the 18th and 19th Centuries   
• One course chosen from:
  • MUS 347 History of Jazz   
  • MUS 348 Music in World Cultures   
  • MUS 349 A History of Rock in Song, Style, and Story   
• MUS 116 Class Piano I  
• One elective unit, which may be in academic or applied music courses
