The ability to use and maintain a vehicle on campus requires adherence to parking rules and regulations. Using on campus parking is a privilege and not a right. Ohio Wesleyan uses a zone system where your permit type is based on your classification as a first-year student, a commuter, or as a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior residing on campus. A comprehensive list of parking policies, including consequences for violating parking policies, can be found by visiting owu.edu/parking.
- Parking rules are enforced 24/7, including all weekends and holidays.

Parking permits are non-transferable and non-refundable.

Students with mobility impairments may request paratransit assistance via the Accessibility Services Office. Visit owu.edu/parking for more information about the paratransit program.

Vehicles found with fictitious or altered permits, or permits not registered to the specific vehicle on which the permit is displayed, will be immobilized, or towed and impounded at the owner’s expense.

The primary use of a parking lot is marked at the entrance with the permit zone in use.

Secondary permit zones may exist within a lot and shall be clearly marked.

When needed, signage may have modifiers that restrict parking beyond the standard applied across campus.

If you are unsure of the designation of a lot, call the Department of Public Safety at 740-368-2222. Ignorance of parking zone designations is not a defensible reason for a parking appeal.

The university reserves the right to issue tickets, confiscate permits, revoke parking privileges, immobilize vehicles, and/or tow vehicles for failure to comply with parking policies.

Behavioral issues that accompany parking violations, including the manner in which a person engages with university employees, may cause a referral to the Office of Student Integrity and Community Standards for an independent review of the circumstances and behaviors.

Display your parking permit at all times when parking at OWU.

Remove any old parking permit stickers from your vehicle.

Apply the sticker to the inside of the lower left corner of your rear windshield (as looking at the window from behind).

State issued accessibility/handicap permits - display as instructed by the issuing state.

Park only in zones your permit is designated for and observe off-peak parking limitations.

Only use an accessibility space if the state issued you a placard or license plate.

Accessibility placards issued to a third party (such as a family member) and used fraudulently may be reported to the State of Ohio and/or include additional City of Delaware fines on top of Ohio Wesleyan fines.

Abusing accessibility spaces may result in an immediate revocation of parking privileges for the remainder of the current academic year.

Temporary parking permits are permissible in some cases. Visit owu.edu/parking to find information regarding temporary parking permits.

If you switch vehicles in the middle of the academic year, please contact the Public Safety Department to update your permit registration.

Parking in fire lanes is prohibited (usually noted by a painted red curb and/or signage).

Do not leave your vehicle unattended in active loading/unloading zones. (If you’re not in or standing next to your vehicle with your keys, it’s unattended.)

Turning on the four-way hazard lights and leaving a vehicle still results in a citation.

Use available parking spaces nearby, even if you’re just running inside for a quick errand.

Do not make your own parking space.

Examples include, but are not limited to, parking in the grass, parking on paved surfaces where there aren’t parking lines, parking in drive lanes, etc.

Do not block accessibility parking spaces, entrances, or ramps.

Do not park on city streets in a way that blocks the driveways of local residents.

Students who have a parent that also works at Ohio Wesleyan may not use their parent’s “E” permit.

Ohio Wesleyan reserves the right to request proof of ownership for any vehicle utilizing on campus parking.

Ohio Wesleyan does not enact or enforce city parking rules. You are responsible for understanding and abiding Delaware City’s rules when using city parking lots or on-street parking. We are unable to appeal a city ticket on your behalf.
As a non-motorized vehicle, a bicycle is permitted on campus sidewalks, driveways and related streets for transportation use. Bicycles should be stored in the bicycle racks located throughout campus property. Bicycles are not permitted inside public buildings and bicycles that are locked to objects other than bicycle racks, specifically but not limited to handrails, trees, benches, and signs, are subject to immediate removal and confiscation.
If a bicycle is confiscated, it will be retained by the Public Safety Department. Bicycle owners may pick up their bicycles only to remove them from campus. If a bicycle is not claimed after six months, it may be converted to University use, donated, discarded, or destroyed.
Non-motorized vehicles are permitted on campus sidewalks, driveways and related streets for transportation use. These non-motorized vehicles are not permitted for recreational use anywhere else on campus – in particular not on any buildings, architectural features on or near any University buildings or property.
Any non-OWU persons found to be violating the above guidelines will be asked to leave University property and could be subject to criminal charges. OWU students found to be violating these guidelines are subject to student conduct charges.
