EDUC 252 - Teaching Reading with Children’s Literature in Grades PreK-8 1.0
Focuses on teaching strategies for integrating children’s literature into the literacy instruction program for preK-8 classrooms. The course is intended to not only acquaint prospective teachers with high-quality literature that appeals to children, but also to develop strategies for using literature to support children’s and young adolescents’ literacy development. Specifically, techniques like the following are addressed: selection and evaluation of books; matching books to developmental stages and preferences; author/illustrator/thematic studies; interactive read-alouds; literature circles; book clubs; the integration of reading, writing, and illustration; literature extensions; response to literature; and the use of literature to support content area instruction. Fall Prerequisites: EDUC 251 or permission of instructor. Fall Writing credit
