Examination of the family as both an institution of society and as a social group. Particular attention is paid to historical, cross-cultural, and subcultural diversity in family forms and to gender and class differences in family experiences. (e.g., marriage, parenthood, divorce, domestic violence). Prerequisite: SOAN 110 or SOAN 111 or permission.
