Music Minor

The music minor is available to all students except those who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Music curriculum or those seeking a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music. Two different minors are offered.

Requirements: Music Performance: 6 units
Declaration of the minor and acceptance into the program is based on the recommendation of applied instructor. Requirements include: two units of applied lessons (acceptance waives the applied lesson fee), two units of participation in a major ensemble (Choral Art Society for voice, Wind Ensemble for winds and percussion, Chamber Orchestra for strings, ensemble for keyboard at the discretion of the department) required for each semester of participation in the program; one unit of music theory (MUS 110 , MUS 155 , plus either MUS 156 or MUS 165 ) and one unit of elective study. Students must also meet the performance requirement described in the Department of Music Handbook and on the website.
Requirements: Academic Music: 5 units
Five units are required: one unit of theory (MUS 110 , MUS 155 , plus either MUS 156 or MUS 165 ); one unit of MUS 105 or MUS 109 ; one unit selected from history (MUS 347 , MUS 348 , MUS 349 , MUS 357 , MUS 358 , MUS 359 ); the equivalent of two units in music courses (applied, ensemble and/or academic courses). The declaration for a minor may be submitted upon completion of two units of music study. Courses taken credit/no entry may not be applied to the music minor.
