Made the following Handbook revisions as approved by the OWU Faculty on 4/15/24 and by the Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee 4/30/24

  • section 2.2.12 a. removed “and the Committee on Honorary Degrees”.

  • section 2.2.12 b. changed number of members from six to five

  • section 2.2.2a changed language to: 

Provide information regarding faculty evaluation policies and procedures to newly-hired, full-time
faculty during the first year of employment. section 3.9.2.4 updated language to: When members of the faculty are evaluated on a summative basis for retention, tenure, promotion, or merit, reviews of the quality of their teaching effectiveness by peer faculty also shall be used by the Faculty Personnel Committee, in addition to the other materials described in Subsection 3.9.2.1 through 3.9.2.4 above. These are called Peer Teaching Observation Reviews. Untenured members of the full-time faculty must have at least one Peer Teaching Observation Review added to their personnel file for each evaluation cycle (i.e., before the fall semester of years 2, 4, and 6 for tenure-track faculty, and annually for term faculty). Tenured members of the full-time faculty must have at least one PeerTeaching Observation Review added during each merit increment evaluation (i.e., every three years).

  • Updated effective date for the Voluntary Phased Retirement Program to August 1, 2023 to reflect the effective date of the handbook.

The Faculty Handbook (PDF, requires login) adopted by the Boad of Trustees at their May 2023 meeting was transferred to Acalog. Formatting changes were made to the original file to optimize readability on the web. In addition, the following errors were corrected. 

  • Changed reference to Section 3.8.3 to Section 3.9.3 in Section 3.3.1.1 on page 33.

  • Changed reference to Section 4.3.6 to Section 4.3.5 in Section 3.3.1.4 on page 33. 

  • Changed references to Section 3.13.5.1 to Section 3.13.6.1 in Section 3.13.6 on page 131. 

  • Changed incorrect abbreviation USERAA to USERRA in Section 3.9.4.3 on pg 81.

  • Section 2.2.9 under a. Duties - Numbered the duty beginning “Promote the admission process” as duty #4 which was unnumbered. See page 20.
